Prince Henry's Room . One of the few buildings left untouched by the Great Fire of London in 1666. Built in 1610 as an office for King James's eldest son, this little room has in its time been a tavern and a waxworks. There is a collection of items on loan from the Pepys Society and original 17th century wood panelling.

One of the few houses in London which survived the 1666 Great Fire of London. The history of the site can be traced back to the 12th century when it formed part of the property granted to the Knights Templar, which in 1312 passed to the Knights Hospitallers of the Order of St John of Jerusalem. The Order of St John was dissolved in 1540. In 1610 the owner of the property decided to rebuild.

On Tuesday 4 September, the fire reached Fleet Street. Despite hopes that the River Fleet would form a natural firebreak the flames jumped over the river, driven by the eastern winds. The half-timbered Inner Temple Gateway 'Prince Henry's Room' on Fleet Street is a notable survivor. By the time of the Fire, it was a tavern, the Prince's Arms.
